COLLECTION

The Danish Jewish Museum collects and preserves all material which can document significant aspects of Jewish life in Denmark. The collection is the museum’s backbone, and in the future it will form the basis of exhibitions at the museum and research into Danish-Jewish history – and thus of the broad understanding of Danish-Jewish cultural heritage and the issues connected to belonging to a minority.

The collection is registered in the system used by many other Danish museums, under the Cultural Heritage Authority. In time, the registration of the collection will become available online.

The collection includes, among other things

  • Paintings, drawings, prints and photographs
  • Silverware and textiles
  • Books, newspapers, scrapbooks, postcards, theatre programmes, memoirs and letters
  • Films, videos, audio recordings, records

The museum’s growing collection includes many photographs, copies of which are sold on request.

Prices and terms for use of photos from the collection

A large part of the collection has been donated by private persons, who have generously given objects and other material to the museum. The museum willingly accepts new objects or information that may shed light on Danish-Jewish life.

The collection is at the disposal of scholars and other people with special interest, who may gain access to the collection through a special arrangement with the museum.
