Auschwitz Day 2025
Holocaust Remembrance Day
Auschwitz Day 27 January 2025
January 27 is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, which is marked in the UN, the EU, around Europe and elsewhere in the world. On Auschwitz Day in Denmark, we remember victims of the Holocaust and other genocides.
2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of KZ-Auschwitz-Birkenau, one of the most infamous concentration camps established during the Second World War. On January 27, 1945, Soviet forces entered the camp and revealed the horrifying reality of the Holocaust. This day marked a crucial turning point where the world truly began to understand the full extent of the atrocities committed by the Nazi regime. It is crucially important to hold on to the memory of the Holocaust, not least at a time when the last witnesses are quietly disappearing, and we take over the responsibility of telling the story and keeping the memory alive for future generations. International Auschwitz Day is a day of remembrance where there will be testimonies from victims of the Holocaust, testimonies from the Bosnian genocide as well as music and candle lighting.
