Auschwitz Day 2026
International Holocaust Remembrance Day

Auschwitz Day 2026
On January 27, the Danish Jewish Museum and the Municipality of Copenhagen, in collaboration with the Jewish Community, will mark Auschwitz Day – International Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Black Diamond in Copenhagen.
It is more important than ever to preserve the memory of the Holocaust. When the events are distant, historical memory can be obscured either by lack of knowledge or by political agendas and conflicts.
History only exists if it is told. The last witnesses and survivors are quietly disappearing in these years. But their children and grandchildren have also lived with the trauma and effects of the Holocaust. It is our responsibility to ensure that the stories of both the survivors and their descendants are told to future generations. It is memorial services like this that help to ensure that says museum director Janus Møller Jensen.
Auschwitz Day is intended to preserve the memory of the Holocaust and the countless victims of the crimes of Nazism. It is also a day for reflection and will feature testimonies from a number of Holocaust survivors and from the genocide in Cambodia.
This year's program will, in addition to a number of testimonies, include speeches from Minister of Church Affairs Morten Dahlin, author and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Per Stig Møller, representative of the Jewish Community Ina Rosen and others, as well as musical performances. The evening will conclude with a memorial service with music and candle lighting.
