The German school and the racial politics of Nazism

17/04/24

Author lecture

Sankt Petri Skole in Copenhagen, "the German school", has been in the heart of Copenhagen since it was founded by Frederik 1575 in 2. In 2017, a discussion arose about whether the school after 1945 and right up to the present has covered the degree and depth of Nazi influence in the 1930s and 1940s.
The school therefore decided that the story should be uncovered. Historian Jacob Halvas Bjerre did that and the result is the book The German school and the occupation.
This lecture focuses on how the Nazi racial policy was slowly but surely incorporated into the school's teaching - and for the German students also in their free time. The school was also subjected to certain anti-Semitic measures, just as Jewish students ceased to be enrolled at the school. This is of course also an aspect of the lecture.

It will be possible to buy the book at a reduced price for the lecture.

Jacob Halvas Bjerre is a Ph.D. in history from CBS and the National Archives, and board member of the Society for Danish Jewish History. In his research, he has primarily dealt with the Nazi persecution of Jews from a Danish perspective, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' knowledge of the German persecution of Jews from a European perspective, as well as the German Aryanization attempts in Denmark.
