Jewish life and history in Aarhus

City map

The Danish Jewish Museum, in collaboration with the Jewish Information Center in Aarhus and Den Gamle By in Aarhus, is launching a new city map so you can explore and discover Aarhus' Jewish history.

The city map guides you through different places in the city where Jewish culture, everyday life and stories of fate have left their mark for more than 200 years. With the map in hand, you can explore the neighborhoods where Jewish families settled, discover historic buildings where Jewish life, trade or synagogues have been located, and at the same time gain an insight into the events and people that shaped Jewish Aarhus.

The initiative stems from a shared desire to make Jewish cultural heritage more accessible and visible to both Aarhusians and tourists in the city. It is also part of the Danish Jewish Museum's work to make Jewish life visible throughout Denmark and its importance to Danish history. So now you can experience history while walking through the city.

It is just one of several maps that contribute to just that. The city map of Jewish Copenhagen, which was also developed in collaboration with the Jewish Information Center, has just been reprinted, along with the publication of a map of the Jewish burial grounds in Copenhagen and the rest of the country. You can find online versions here..

You can read the press release here.

The card can be picked up at Den Gamle By, the Occupation Museum, Dokk1, the Danish Jewish Museum or download here.
