Culture Night 2025 - In light and poetry
Left in light and poetry

At Culture Night 2025, we invite you on a sensual journey through Janina Katz's poetry and Martin Hall's sound.
10 years ago, the spoken word album 'Efterladt' was released. A musical interpretation of the poems of the Polish-Danish-Jewish writer Janina Katz created by artist Martin Hall.
This evening you will enter Martin Hall's sound universe and Daniel Libeskind's expressive architecture dressed in light produced by Arthur Van Der Zaag, draped with fragments and quotes from Janina Katz's works.
The experience is unique to Culture Night, but grows out of the special exhibition 'Left Behind. Janina Katz and the Polish Jews in Denmark', which opens on October 9 and runs until April 5, 2026.
Janina Katz's story is important, exciting and interesting in its own right. It is also an expression of a more general story about anti-Semitism in Europe and the Cold War, with significance for both Danish history and Danish Jewish history.
Who is Janina Katz?
Katz (1939-2013) was a Holocaust survivor and refugee from communist Poland in 1969. She made her debut as a writer in Danish in 1991, and has since expressed herself with power and irony about identity and exile. She received a number of awards for her writing.
Who is Martin Hall?
Hall(b.1963) is a musician and author. In addition to his own extensive production, he has previously composed music for, for example, Nicolaj Stochholm's Færden and published music for a number of Ingvar Cronhammar's works.
