House of Eternity - Jewish cemeteries in the province
What can old gravestones tell us? A whole lot!
Jewish cemeteries must not be abandoned. They are therefore called Beit Olam – the House of Eternity. The rule has been respected in Denmark, and outside Copenhagen there are ten preserved Jewish cemeteries. They are important Danish and Jewish cultural monuments that are testimony to the Jewish life lived throughout Denmark. They contain countless personal stories that can shed light on this.
Director of the Danish Jewish Museum Janus Møller Jensen talks to Johnny Wøllekær, city archivist in Odense, about a new dissemination project that focuses on disseminating information about the burial grounds and Jewish life in the province.
