HM The Queen visited the Danish Jewish Museum on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of Jews in Denmark

Today, Her Majesty the Queen visited the Danish Jewish Museum as part of the official marking of 400 years of Jewish life in Denmark. On arrival, His Majesty was presented with Daniel Libeskind's new iconic entrance, followed by a tour of the museum's brand new exhibitions.

Throughout the year, the Danish Jewish Museum has focused on the anniversary with book publications, lectures and a traveling exhibition that will be shown in seven cities across the country over the next two years. HM The Queen's visit to the museum was part of the official marking of 400 years of Jewish life in Denmark, which also included a ceremony in the Synagogue in Krystalgade.

HM The Queen also took part in the inauguration of the museum in 2004. It is therefore also an authoritative museum that has just reopened with completely new exhibitions and a new entrance designed by Daniel Libeskind. The exhibitions have been prepared in collaboration with Moesgaards Museum's Art Gallery.

"It was a great pleasure to be able to show HM the Queen around the new exhibitions, which represent a completely new exhibition approach in Libeskind's iconic architecture", says museum director Janus Møller Jensen. "Especially because there is a special connection between the Danish royal house and the history of the Danish Jews, which goes all the way back to 1622, when Christian IV officially invited Jews to live in Denmark."

It is a special chapter of Danish history that is being focused on with the marking of 400 years of Jewish life in Denmark. It is an important story that has unfolded in the field of tension between light and darkness and is about both integration, tolerance, escape and persecution, which has great significance for the contemporary debate and situation for other minorities as well.
