The Jewish Information Center and the Danish Jewish Museum welcome you to an exciting lecture during the event series 'My Jewish inspiration' - this time in conversation with the artist Tal R and the musician Benjamin Koppel.
In the event series "My Jewish inspiration", two artists with a Jewish background are invited to a talk about the significance of their Jewish background for their art and life. As a Jewish artist, do you have a special horizon, aesthetics, sensibility or a special sense of symbols? And what is the relationship between artist and work? This time we have invited visual artist Tal R and musician Benjamin Koppel into Den Sorte Diamant for a talk about their Jewish inspiration.
Tal R is one of Denmark's leading contemporary artists and has exhibited in museums and galleries all over the country and outside the country's borders. Tal R graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2000 and is best known for his colour-saturated, motif-rich and patterned paintings. His artistic work, however, ranges widely in both form and narrative: From sculptures and drawings to larger installations. Tal R himself has described his artistic process through the Hebrew word "kolbojnik" (the remains) - a word for what is left behind or thrown out and which encapsulates the jumble of materials and forms of inspiration that find their way into Tal R's art.
Benjamin Koppel is a saxophonist, composer and author, internationally recognized for his virtuosity and musical range. As the grandson of the famous Danish composer Herman D. Koppel, Benjamin Koppel has carried on a proud and impressive musical family tradition. Koppel has received a large number of awards for his musical work and has performed with both internationally known jazz stars, Danish pop names and renowned symphony orchestras in Europe, the USA and China.
Then join us on Wednesday, September 14, when we delve into how Tal R and Benjamin Koppel are influenced and inspired by their Jewish origins, and how this unfolds and is expressed through their artistic work. To moderate the conversation, we have invited culture editor at Weekendavisen Kathrine Tschemerinsky.
