A conversation with Bogusława Sochańska
Janina Katz and the Polish Jews

On March 26th, we invite you to a conversation about culture, literature and language. The event begins with a special introduction to the exhibition Left behind. Janina Katz and the Polish Jews in Denmark by museum director Janus Møller Jensen.
Janus will then be in conversation with Bogusława Sochańska, former cultural attaché at the Polish Embassy in Copenhagen and director of the Danish Cultural Institute in Poland. Bogusława Sochańska has translated a number of works by the Danish-Polish-Jewish author Janina Katz, and will shed light on that work and the Polish aspects of Janina's writing.
In the project Left at the Danish Jewish Museum We focus on the history of the Polish Jews who came to the country as refugees, primarily in the years 1969-73. One of them was Janina Katz. She became a recognized author first in Denmark and later in her home country of Poland.
Bogusława Sochańska's work on Janina's literature forms the starting point for the conversation, which focuses on the cultural connections between Denmark and Poland in a larger historical perspective. For many, the Cold War may overshadow the close cultural and historical connections between Denmark and Poland, which go back to the origins of the kingdoms more than 1000 years ago.
Both the introduction to the exhibition and the conversation will be in Danish.
The event has been created in collaboration with the Polish Embassy in Denmark.
