Jews in Denmark through 400 years
The People's University

Danish Jewish Museum's lecture series at the Folkeuniversitetet in spring 2026
In 1622, Christian IV invited Jews to settle in Denmark. This was the beginning of a shared Danish-Jewish history. The Danish Jewish Museum now offers a lecture series that delves into each of the four centuries.
The lectures will focus on power, religion, integration, war and peace, as well as anti-Semitism and tolerance. Danish Jewish history constitutes an exciting and current, but also somewhat overlooked chapter of Danish history. The four centuries are divided into four courses, which tell about the arrival in the 1600th century, the consolidation in the 1700th century, the so-called golden age in the 1800th century and finally the 20th century immigration and emigration, flight and persecution from the end of the 1800th century until the attack in Krystalgade in 2015.
The four lectures are by the museum director, PhD Janus Møller Jensen - registrar and collection manager, MSc Thomas Egebæk - curator, MSc Sara Fredfeldt Stadager - curator, MSc Signe B. Larsen curator. All from the Danish Jewish Museum.
