Jews, coffee, tea and chocolate

Come along to the lecture
Jews, coffee, tea and chocolate
Lecture by Annette Hoff, formerly senior researcher, dr. phil.
In collaboration between the Danish Jewish Museum and the Society for Danish Jewish History, you are invited to spiritual food in the form of a lecture with Annette Hoff. She is the author behind the book series "Nydelsmidernes danmarkshistorie" where volumes 1-3 cover the history of tea, coffee and chocolate in Denmark.
On the same occasion, we offer tastings from the store's assortment in the form of tea and chocolate.
The Danish Jews have a special stake in this part of Denmark's history, and Annette has promised to unfold it at this lecture.
The Danish history of pleasure has been shown to be closely linked to the Danish Jewish traders. For the first time, Danes' lives with the pleasures of tea, coffee and chocolate from 1660 to the present day - and wine from the Middle Ages to our own time - have been explored in a major research and publication project from 2013-18 in Den Gamle By in Aarhus.
By digging deep in the National Archives, rich archive packages and the collections of the Danish museums, we have succeeded in bringing out completely new information about us Danes and our use of pleasure. Especially with regard to the cultural history of chocolate in this country, the Jewish traders, especially from Fredericia, play a significant role. The four volumes in the series on the indulgences tea-coffee-chocolate and wine were published 2015-18, and the series has received the Ministry of Culture's research award. Annette Hoff was admitted to the Danish Gastronomic Academy in 2018.
