The Jews in the province in the 1800th century
Come along to the lecture
Lecture by Vibeke Kaiser-Hansen
Organized by the Society for Danish Jewish History and the Danish Jewish Museum
In the first half of the 1800th century, Jewish life flourished in the province. In 1840 lived approx. 41% of the kingdom's Jews here. In the second half of the century, the Jewish population outside Copenhagen declined, so that around the year 1900 it was largely the end of Jewish congregations in the market towns.
In the lecture, the results behind a new book are presented The Danish history of the Jews – in the province, which is the first major representation of Jewish life and culture outside the capital. There will be a focus on the coexistence between Jews and Christians in the smaller urban communities - including integration especially within business and social life.
The Danish history of the Jews – in the province released September 15, 2022
Lecturer Vibeke Kaiser-Hansen is a Ph.D. in history and museum inspector at the Museerne in Fredericia as well as author of the book Jødernes danmarkshistorie – i province (2022).
