International Holocaust Remembrance Day
Marking Auschwitz Day elsewhere in the country
It is not only in Copenhagen that Auschwitz Day - International Holocaust Remembrance Day will be marked. As usual, events will also be held in Odense and Aarhus, which you can read more about below.
In Odense, it will take place at the University of Southern Denmark, where the Network for Nazism and Holocaust Studies will mark the day with a public afternoon meeting at SDU in Odense. It will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in auditorium U300, University of Southern Denmark, Campusvej 55, 5230 Odense. This year, the topic is “October 1943: flight, exile and homecoming”. Kirsten Davidsen, who had to flee to Sweden at the age of 15 when the German occupation forces attacked Denmark’s Jews, will talk about her experiences and the long-term consequences of the escape experience in conversation with Jens-Chr. Hansen. In a short lecture, Therkel Stræde will outline the background. To conclude, NNHS will host beer, water and some snacks. Registration must be made by 25 Jan. by email to therkel@hist.sdu.dk
In Aarhus, the day will also be marked. It will take place in Helsingør Theater in Den Gamle By. Here, historians Søren Werther Kjær Rasmussen and Klaus Bertelsen will each give their presentations. You can read more about the event right here, where you can also buy tickets for the lectures.
