My father's escape - Book reception
Book reception
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary, People's Press in collaboration with the Danish Jewish Museum is republishing Bent Blüdnikow's father's account of the fate of some of the most dramatic days in Denmark's history with a new foreword and introduction.
On October 7, 1943, Bent Blüdnikow's father, Benjamin, boarded a rowing boat with nine other Jews to take them from occupied Denmark to safety in Sweden. The boat capsized and everyone on board, including a small child, ended up in the cold waters of the Øresund. Seven were saved; three drowned.
With his father's story as a focal point, Bent Blüdnikow tells about the rescue of the Danish Jews in 1943 in a larger chronological and historical context. Bent Blüdnikow's poignant account is based on conversations with his parents, their diaries, interviews with survivors from the rowing boat and other Danish Jews.
The story is eternally relevant and will be published as part of the marking of the 80th anniversary of the escape and rescue of the Danish Jews in October 1943. There will be a presentation by author and historian Bent Blüdnikow, museum director Janus Møller Jensen and Dan Bandmann, whose mother was with the escape.
We offer a glass and it will be possible to buy the book at a particularly favorable price on the day.
