Meet us at Historical Days
Historical festival and fair

7 stages, 75 exhibitors, 150 events in 2 days! The Danish Jewish Museum is back this year!
Then it will soon be time for a whole weekend filled with history, lectures and music! Historic Days opens its doors once again for a fantastic historical festival. We participate with both a stand and several performances on the stages in Øksnehallen.
At our stand you can get a taste of 400 years of Jewish life in the form of our schnapps, which were developed in collaboration with Nyborg Destilleri and our two beers, which were developed in collaboration with Ørbæk Bryggeri. You can buy books, posters and our own tea. Of course, you can also stop by our stand and find out more about the museum's exhibitions or find answers to other things you are curious about.
On stage, we appear in conversations about several exciting things, including a conversation about the arrival and life of Polish Jews in Denmark, as well as an exciting talk about Jewish burial grounds in the province.
Saturday at Lilla Scene
11:30 House of Eternity - Jewish Burial Grounds in the Province
In a conversation between Janus Møller Jensen, museum director of the Danish Jewish Museum, and Johnny Wøllekær, city archivist in Odense, the focus is on what old gravestones can actually tell - and that is quite a lot. Jewish burial grounds must not be abandoned. They are therefore called Beit Olam - the House of Eternity. The rule has been respected in Denmark, and outside Copenhagen there are 10 preserved burial grounds. They are important Danish and Jewish cultural monuments, are testimony to the Jewish life lived throughout Denmark and contain countless personal stories that can shed light on this.
Saturday on the Red Stage
16:00 JANINA KATZ AND THE POLISH JEWS IN DENMARK.
Associate Professor of Language and Cultural Studies Jessica Ortener, together with the museum director of the Danish Jewish Museum, Janus Møller Jensen, delve into a conversation about Polish Jews and the importance of literature and immigration for Holocaust remembrance. The starting point is the Polish Jewish author Janina Katz, who was just one of almost 3000 Polish Jews who fled to Denmark in the years 1969-1975. She debuted as an author in Danish in 1991 and published 21 books before her death in 2013. With Janina and the Polish Jews, the Danes were presented with a completely different memory of the Holocaust than the story of October 1943.
