The power of words in Copenhagen

08/09/26

Exhibition

The traveling exhibition has been shown in four cities on Funen and Jutland in the spring. Now the exhibition is coming to Copenhagen in close collaboration between the Danish Jewish Museum and the Municipality of Copenhagen. Many Danish Jews have had a connection to Copenhagen, and the city is central to the story of Jewish life in Denmark. Four Copenhagen libraries will therefore be hosting the exhibition during the autumn of 2026. The Power of the Word, starting with Øbro Jagtvej Library, where you can see the exhibition from September 10th.

The Power of the Word is one of the national initiatives that aims to bring history to where people meet in everyday life – including in libraries – and provide a solid and historically informed basis for understanding and recognizing anti-Semitism in the present. The subject is complex, but the exhibition is created to look beyond the words in a historical perspective.

“There is a huge need for information about what anti-Semitism is and what it means,” says museum director Janus Møller Jensen. "It is absolutely fantastic to experience the support from the Municipality of Copenhagen for this information effort, which helps to anchor and extend an initiative that was started as a national initiative."

The exhibition was developed in collaboration with exhibition architects Torden & Lynild and stems from the government's action plan against antisemitism.

We look forward to taking the museum on a tour, meeting the libraries, and collaborating with local school classes in a workshop that will become an integrated part of each exhibition period.
