Postcard from Paris

Conference

We have been to a conference in Paris.

Again this year we have been to the annual conference of the European Jewish Museums. It is three intense days with good colleagues and exciting debates and presentations. It is an important network where we draw inspiration and reflect on our work in Denmark in light of the experience of our colleagues across Europe. This year there were also guest participants, so there were representatives from Norway to Belarus to Australia, South Africa and on to the USA and everything in between.

Our host was the Jewish Museum of Paris (MAHJ), which in addition to covering cultural history is also an art museum. This led to many conversations about definitions of Jewish art - fortunately without conclusions but with a lot of reflections.

For us, the topic was particularly relevant due to our collaboration with SMK on the restoration and dissemination of Geskel Salomon's "Marsk Stig's Daughters". You can read more about that project on our website, and we look forward to telling you much more about it in the autumn. You can read more about the project here.

Recommendations

If you are going to Paris soon, we recommend the MAHJ special exhibition on Alfred Dreyfus. It contains a lot of new material that sheds light on the entire period and why the Dreyfus affair was of crucial importance to European Jewish life.

If you are not coming to Paris right now, we recommend the film "J'accuse", which can be found on Filmstriben and borrowed with a simple library login, or the podcast episode "The Battle for History - The Dreyfus Affair and the Divided France", which can be found on DR-audio.
