Walking tour - Danish Jewish history in Copenhagen

23/08/23

An exciting walking tour that conveys Danish Jewish cultural history from 1622 to the present day.

Jews have lived everywhere in Denmark since Christian IV formally invited Jews to settle in Glückstadt in 1622. In a number of market towns, but especially in Copenhagen, there are still traces of a rich Jewish life. On this walking tour through Copenhagen with stops at relevant addresses, landmarks and memorials, you can experience the many facets of Danish Jewish cultural history.

We invite you on a walking tour of Danish Jewish history in Copenhagen! The trip has a duration of approx. 2,5 hours and is 5 km long.

We start together in front of the Danish Jewish Museum. We pass by selected places that reflect Danish Jewish history. Ex. Amagertorv, where several well-known Jewish families and businesses have had their addresses. Badstuestræde 20, where Copenhagen's first synagogue was located. Pilestræd/Landemærket where you can hear more about the Eastern European Jews. Past Israel Square, where a memorial tells about October '43. The tour ends at the Mosaic Northern Cemetery on Møllegade.
