We are involved in Historical Days!

28/03/25

Historical festival and fair

6 stages, 75 exhibitors, 150 events in 2 days! This year, the Danish Jewish Museum is again participating in the historical festival 'Historic Days' in Øksnehallen from 29 to 30 March.

Then it will soon be time for a whole weekend filled with history, lectures and music! Historic Days opens its doors once again for a fantastic historical festival. We participate with both a stand and several performances on the stages in Øksnehallen.

At our stand you can get a taste of 400 years of Jewish life in the form of our schnapps, which were developed in collaboration with Nyborg Distillery. You can buy books, posters, our own tea and chocolate coins with a historically good taste! Of course, you can also stop by our stand and find out more about the museum's exhibitions or find answers to other things you are curious about.

On stage we will appear in conversations about several exciting things, including a research project on holiday albums, in a conversation about the award-nominated book "Borderless Jews", in a talk about DR's latest drama documentary "Hugo - Göring's Jewish Friend" and finally in a conversation about the culture of remembrance and the collection of testimonies.

Saturday on the Uncle Danny stage

11:30 BORDERSLESS JEWS Bent Blüdnikow. Moderator: Janus Møller Jensen

In conversation with the director of the Danish Jewish Museum, Janus Møller Jensen, historian Bent Blüdnikow talks about two Jewish family clans, Sumbel and Buzaglo, who originally came from Morocco, but settled in London, Berlin, Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Altona.

Saturday on DR Stage

17:30 A REPRESSED TRUTH ABOUT THE JEWISH REFUGEES. Museum curator Signe B. Larsen participates in a conversation with Louis Meyer.

DR host Bjørn Meyer interviews museum curator Signe Bergman Larsen and Louis Meyer – the man behind the drama documentary series “Hugo – Göring’s Jewish Friend”. They discuss why Denmark’s rejection of Jewish refugees has been repressed, and how descendants relate to a Jewish relative who was friends with Hermann Göring.

Sunday on BLUE SCENE

14:30  DO YOU FORGET? WE REMEMBER! THE EXILE OF THE DANISH JEWS FROM 1943-1945. Michael Rachlin. Moderator: Signe Bergman Larsen.

This year marks 80 years since Denmark was liberated and the Danish Jews were able to return home from exile in Sweden. But what characterized the time in exile? Deprivation, fear, hope? Surprisingly little has been written about the time of exile. Listen as museum curator Signe Bergman Larsen talks to editor of Jødisk Orientering, Michael Rachlin, about a brand new research project based on the museum's collection of photo albums from the Danish Jews' stay in Sweden.

Sunday at GREEN SCENE

16:20  IMPORTANT TESTIMONIALS FROM DANISH JEWS. Hans Henrik Fafner and Thomas Winkler. Moderator: Signe Bergman Larsen..

Over the past two years, new testimonies have been collected from Danish Jews living in Israel. The witnesses tell about their experiences during World War II, about their escape to Sweden or their experiences in Theresienstadt. These are harsh, touching and sometimes surprising stories. But is there anything more to talk about? Are there any witnesses who have not previously told their story in front of a camera, and why is it important to talk to them? Journalist and author Hans Henrik Fafner has interviewed the witnesses, and he talks to Signe Bergman Larsen from the Danish Jewish Museum and Ambassador Thomas Winkler about the collaboration, the collection and the importance of continuing to focus on this part of history.
