Teaching at the Danish Jewish Museum
The Danish Jewish Museum tells the story of 400 years of Jewish history in Denmark. History that is shaped by the interaction between existing life and culture in Denmark and Jewish life and culture. Danish Jewish history is both a story of community and freedom and of xenophobia and fear.
The Danish Jewish Museum intends to contribute to establishing conditions for increased tolerance and understanding between people. Therefore, the museum offers a space for education that supports community, experiences and engagement and provides space for wonder and conversation.
Central to the teaching is the students' physical encounter with the museum's special architecture. The students investigate how museum spaces and object fields interact and contribute to stories about Danish Jewish life and experiences of living as a minority and carrying a history that is often characterized by flight and persecution.
The Danish Jewish Museum offers education for the middle and high school levels of primary school and focuses primarily on the subject of history in combination with Danish and visual arts.
Welcome to the Danish Jewish Museum!
How do we work with objects?
The complexity and diversity of Danish Jewish history calls for a curious and nuanced approach to stories about immigration and tolerance, in a time and a world marked by change and unrest.
The films can be used as preparation for a visit to the museum. Here you can get a feel for how to work with objects and Danish Jewish history.
The films are made with music by Benjamin Gustafsson from Musicbed.com, motion by Jesper Bolther from Friction and film and clips by Julie Blicher from Trojaborg Blik.
Academic sparring for teachers and professionals
Are you holding a meeting in the teaching team or subject group in, for example, history, Christian studies or visual arts and would you like to leave the house and visit an external learning environment in Copenhagen? Then you are welcome to contact us.
We welcome teaching teams to hold a meeting at the museum, and in this connection get an introduction to how the Danish Jewish Museum's exhibitions, architecture and object field can be included in your teaching.
The visit is free and is offered as part of the museum's educational project Lilmod, which is supported by the Danish Palaces and Culture Agency.
We offer you a cup of coffee and give you an introduction to the museum and our teaching. And then we are very interested in talking to you about how you see that the museum can be relevant for the students in teaching.
